The Jobs of the Future and the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Technology is a response to man’s desire to transform the environment and improve his quality of life.

At some point in our lives we have thought how far technology will go and how beneficial or threatening it can be to human beings.

According to a report by the World Economic Forum, it is estimated that within 10 years technology will eliminate or replace more than five million jobs. This large figure has generated concern in society in recent years. However, there is a group of people who believe the opposite, they believe that the “Fourth Industrial Revolution” will not destroy jobs but will change and evolve the way people work and use their time. In support of this thesis, new studies indicate that 65% of primary school students will work in a job that does not exist today.

The idea that the implementation of machines destroys jobs is not new. These thoughts have been around for more than 100 years, since the introduction of the steam engine or when robots appeared on assembly lines. In the end, neither steam engines nor robots diminished the human labor force, instead, they created new jobs since these machines required to be maintained and supervised and therefore people were needed who could maintain and program them.

Thanks to these experiences, humanity learned that the ability to adapt, creativity and intelligence of human beings in combination with the ability of the robot, formed a work team with higher performance.

It is estimated that something similar will happen in the near future, when the Fourth Industrial Revolution arises. However, as in any revolution, it is those who use new technologies and market opportunities in their favor who manage to emerge victorious from a revolution. As a company or professional it is important to be aware of new technologies and professions that will adapt to them.

This being the case, we can question whether the analysis of the World Economic Forum is true, whether it is inevitable that unemployment will occur and what can be done to counteract this situation. The solution is difficult to accept, but simple. Study, analyze and focus on new professions and flourishing industries

The New Professions in Demand

It is a fact that the incorporation of new machinery, robots, artificial intelligence and connectivity further facilitate the work of human beings and their efficiency. However, they have created new needs, areas of work and therefore new professions.

One of the most interesting new professions is microcomputing. This new field of work has allowed machines to be more precise and make fewer errors than human beings. Although machines “replace” human work, they require humans to carry out analysis, supervise the safety of productions, take care of communications and the user experience, among other factors that end up making the difference between man and machine.

Other new professions that are in great demand today and that continue to grow are:

  • Application and software designer
  • Data analysts or data scientists
  • Chief analyst
  • Cloud and distributed systems technicians
  • Programmers
  • Artificial intelligence developers
  • Security specialists, such as cybersecurity
  • Artificial Intelligence Developer
  • Cloud architect
  • CDO, Chief Digital Officer
  • Head of UI and UX
  • Back end developer
  • Digital Marketing Director
  • SEO Technician
  • EMS Specialist
  • Trafficker Digital
  • Copywriter
  • Web designer
  • Social Media Manager
  • Community Manager
  • Content Manager
  • Graphic designer
  • Ecommerce
  • Inbound Marketing Specialist
  • Video editor

In life everything is a balance, and in technology too. The implementation of new technological advances is a process that is sometimes slow and sometimes very fast in society. These implementations have as main purpose to create more facilities and improve the quality of life for human beings. Although it is true that they have replaced the human being in certain professions, these would not have existed or evolved without the new professions that human beings have created to adapt to change. It is for this reason that we must see technology and robotics as a useful element for developmentof the human as long as we are willing to accept the change and use it intelligently in a new favor.
